Know Before You Go

Understanding this season’s challenges

If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that 2020 and 2021 have been unique years with their own set of challenges. From a pandemic to the destruction caused by Hurricane Sally in September 2020, our team has strived to overcome these challenges to ensure our beloved guests can create happy memories at their favorite Gulf Shores resort. It hasn’t been an easy road and wouldn’t be possible without the support of our loyal guests and owners. In addition to our challenges with Sally, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is facing an island-wide labor and supply shortage, which affects the resort and possibly your vacation.

We want to paint an accurate picture of what vacations are like at The Beach Club Resort & Spa this summer. Please know, it’s very likely your annual vacation won’t be postcard-perfect or could even be canceled.

Should you decide to visit us, we want you to have your eyes wide open before you arrive so you can make an informed decision about your reservation. There will be hurdles. There may likely be noise in some places. You will see construction debris. There will be delays and limited menus in our resort restaurants.

In short, we aren’t quite The Beach Club you’ve come to know and love over the years, but we’re getting there. We appreciate every bit of grace and patience you can offer before, during, and even after your visit.

We do have good news! We are now accepting reservations for SELECT units in all towers and cottages.

Challenges to Expect

  • Last-minute cancellations due to construction delays and material shortages. While we have “open” dates for individual condos, some have been delayed at the last minute due to materials such as cabinetry not arriving by original delivery dates. We try to move guests to other units, but it isn’t always possible.
  • You’ll likely see construction debris. Cottage guests will access the beach via a construction entrance with scaffolding (see photo). This does sound scarier than it actually is.
  • The Village Hideaway is currently closed due to staffing shortages.
  • Amenities and outlets including beach chair rentals, the Spa, Food trucks at the Village Lawn and more may sporadically close with little to no notice due to labor shortages.
  • Heavy phone traffic due to labor shortages. We encourage our guests to download The Beach Club mobile app for information about their reservations and make dining and spa reservations.

Balcony Access

Balconies are open; however, we expect ropes and swing stages to be in place across all balconies on the property. There may be a day when specific balconies are not accessible while workers access them via the swing stage during your stay. We cannot guarantee your balcony will be accessible for 100% of your visit.

Construction Inconvenience

Additionally, due to ongoing delays in receiving building material, many condos are still waiting to complete construction; this means construction noise and dust will be pervasive across the property with no set hours for workers either on the balconies or in the condos. Significant portions of the areas around the Clubhouse, Avalon, Bristol, Catalina, and Doral towers will be blocked off for construction, with walkways to the pools and beach.

Ground Floor

If your condo is on the ground floor, orange construction netting may obstruct your view and prevent you from exiting the condo via your patio.

Cottage Guests

If you are staying in our Cottage area, you will not have construction on your cottage, but you will need to pass through construction via a walkway between the Clubhouse and Catalina tower in order to access the beach.

Elevator Access/Workers on Site

You will likely see construction workers throughout the tower on all breezeways and elevators, resulting in extended wait times for elevators. We cannot make any guarantees regarding the conduct or professionalism of the contractors and vendors on property.


The Catalina and Doral pools may experience intermittent closures while select balconies are being revitalized. We cannot guarantee tower pool access for the entirety of your stay. The Clubhouse amenities and Hideaway should not be affected, based on what we know right now.

Possibility of Cancellation

Please also be aware that while we are working to bring all condos back into operation as soon as possible, there is also a chance that your condo’s construction may be delayed. If this occurs it is likely you will have your stay canceled and refunded, as the current high occupancy at the resort limits our ability to move reservations. We wanted to make you aware of this possibility as soon as we could, so that you can better make an informed decision about whether or not to cancel your stay.

Waiver Requirement

If you should choose to retain your stay, we will be emailing you a waiver that must be signed and returned prior to 48 hours before your arrival. If we do not receive the signed form more than 48 hours prior to your arrival, we will be forced to cancel your stay.

Now for the Good News!

There’s still plenty of fun to be had at The Beach Club.

Now Open

  • Cottages and select condos in all four towers
  • Clubhouse amenities: The Spa & Salon, arcade, pools, fitness center and Gulfside Bar & Grill (Some amenities could close due to labor shortages)
  • Coast is now open for lunch and dinner.
  • The Village: The Creamery, Mercantile, and Village Lawn
  • Tower and Clubhouse Pools (with intermittent closures when necessary for repairs)
  • Tennis courts

“Construction was going on during our stay as they rebuild from Hurricane Sally. While that’s not ideal for a vacation, I felt very prepared for what we could run into with the construction. There were several communications sent out via email. You have to sign a construction waiver and it’s all over The Beach Club website that you will experience construction. You seriously can’t miss the message. The construction really played a tiny role in staying at The Beach Club. Do research and there will be no surprises.”


“The Beach Club is still recovering from Hurricane Sally last year. However, it was still so nice to go back to our favorite place. They had construction workers on the property and sometimes maybe one of the pools was closed (this was all disclosed before our stay), but it was so good to see that the beautiful property is recovering from such a devastating storm. Everything in our condo was new and very clean. Staff was always very nice and helpful. We had an excellent stay and can’t wait to go back next year!”

Are you prepared for these unique challenges this summer? We’d love to see you and welcome you back, but we also want you to make the best decision for your family and your valuable vacation time. We know your time is not unlimited. If you’re prepared to accept these potential hurdles and can pack a little extra grace and patience for our team, we hope to see you soon. But, if the time isn’t right, we hope to welcome you back this fall when the resort is fully operational.
