5 Reasons to Stay at The Beach Club Resort and Spa

By Heather Montgomery, Through Heather’s Looking Glass

There are a LOT of reasons to stay at the Beach Club Resort and Spa in Fort Morgan, (just outside Gulf Shores) Alabama. I truly could gush on and on about how much my family loves it there. I decided to pick five of my favorite things to tell you about, and then answer any additional questions that come from the post. Let’s buckle up and get moving!

Why I love the Beach Club Resort and Spa:

The first reason is right there in the name…a spa. Not just any spa, but an Aveda spa, right on property, mere steps away from the condo we stayed in. I was greeted by the lovely smell of Aveda products, and brought back to change in the locker room and brought to a beautiful relaxation space and offered a mimosa. Yes please! There is also coffee and other items available. IF you want to jump in the hot tub, bring your swimsuit and arrive early for your treatments to unwind a bit before hand.

6 Fun Things to Do for Labor Day in Gulf Shores

The Labor Day holiday weekend serves as the unofficial end to summer, so it’s only fitting to spend it at the beach. (Wait a second, did you know it’s warm well into November? That’s right! You’ve got plenty of time to keep on summering. But, we’re also celebrating a staple to beach vacationing – Labor Day in Gulf Shores!)

Take advantage of that three-day weekend and plan a getaway. After all, there’s plenty of sunshine, long summer days, warm temperatures and lots of activities for every member of the family to enjoy during Labor Day in Gulf Shores.

Labor Day Weekend Fun

Escape Fort Morgan

It’s the summer of 1864 and you’re a Federal spy captured by Confederate soldiers during the Battle of Mobile Bay. Your job is to find a defensive map and escape route. It’s the challenging scenario for the Espionage at Mobile Point escape room at Fort Morgan Historic Site. The hours are 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so your options to be a spy are limited. Be sure to reserve your time in advance!

Set A Hook

Keep Cool at The Beach Club Resort and Spa

Alabama’s Gulf Coast is an exciting place to visit, even in the dog days of summer when temperatures soar. Guests of The Beach Club Resort and Spa have some refuge from the heat with a few suggestions that’ll keep you cool and comfortable all summer long.

Rent beach chair sets with an umbrella on the beach. Spectrum guests receive priority seating on the front row (subject to availability) and can book in advance through The Beach Club app. You’ll be surprised at the difference a little shady spot can make.

Plan to break for lunch in the hottest part of the day (noon – 2 p.m.). Choose lunch and naps in the room if you have littles or take the family to The Village Hideaway (located at the main entrance) for lunch and cocktails.

The Clubhouse at The Beach Club

Hit the pool instead of the beach when it’s super hot. Lots of people are headed inside to beat the heat and enjoy lunch, so the pool might be less crowded and definitely cooler, particularly if you stay in the water.

Cool off with a frozen drink at Gulfside Bar & Grill where you’ll also find snacks, small plates and fantastic burgers. Gulfside overlooks The Clubhouse pool and has an awesome Gulf of Mexico view as well.

Take an ice cream break! Head over to The Village Creamery and satisfy your sweet tooth while noshing on hand-dipped ice cream, dipping dots, key lime pie sundaes or cookies and cream sundaes. Spectrum guests under the age of 18 receive FREE cone vouchers at check-in.

Enjoy mornings outdoors, retreat indoors during the hottest temperatures, then head back out as the sun goes down. Families LOVE evenings at The Village Lawn (open seasonally) where there are food trucks, drinks, music, games/activities and space for the kids to run off extra energy. Don’t forget to show your Spectrum wristband for a 10% discount on all food and non-alcoholic beverage purchases.

Book a spa appointment during the hottest part of the day. Not only will you escape the heat, but you’ll be pampered head to toe.

Keep yourself hydrated with lots of water, popsicles, or water-packed fruits especially when the sun is scorching. And, don’t forget to reapply sunscreen often!

Be safe and not sorry by booking a condo or cottage directly with Spectrum Resorts. Summer is a busy season, and we want you to have your favorite condo or cottage!

Recently, we’ve added one more big reason to visit—a new tennis pro offering lessons and classes!

Joey Carney, Tennis Pro at The Beach Club

The decision to bring Joey Carney to The Beach Club has proven to be exciting for the resort where lighted Rubico clay courts have been part of the landscape for many years. Joey has a resume filled with stellar affiliations and is the former Head Professional for Club Med Resorts as well as Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne Florida. Joey trained at The John Newcombe Tennis Academy and has successfully built tennis programs all over the world.

Joey is a USPTA Elite Professional, Pro-1 Rating Tennis Canada and a USRSA Master Racquet Technician who loves giving lessons to people of all ages and skill levels.

Keeping it fun is key for Joey who truly loves being on the court looking for ways to connect and make memories on and off court. When not on the court, Joey can be found enjoying our white-sand beaches and spending time with his family, including Zoey, his rescue dog. Fun Fact: Joey collects vintage tennis racquets!

Tennis Lessons & Classes

Visitors to The Beach Club who love tennis are in luck as there is a full suite of opportunities to join a class or take some lessons with Joey. Fit to Hit Cardio Classes are open to all levels on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and to Intermediate and Advanced players on Thursdays at 10 a.m. Bring the kiddos on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. for Kids Tennis Drills. There are also private and group lessons available for 30-60 minutes.

Facilities

The tennis courts are open from 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily and may be rented by the hour (Spectrum Resort guests are free).

Visit The Pro Shop to purchase tennis balls and logo merchandise. Open 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday – Friday, The Pro Shop offers racquet rentals (complimentary for Spectrum Resort guests). After 2 p.m., racquets can be checked out at The Clubhouse Desk.

Don’t forget to show your Spectrum Wristband at The Pro Shop for 10% off. Call ahead for court reservations or to schedule lessons at 251-540-1340. There is also a form for lessons and classes online

Of course, all tennis fanatics know that a fun vacation including such sporty amenities like these begins with booking the most perfect accommodations for your family. Check out The Beach Club Resort and Spa today and start dreaming of sun-kissed days on Alabama’s Gulf Coast.

Our Favorite Summer Activities in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach

Guests at The Beach Club Resort & Spa have many onsite amenities and activities to keep the family busy. However, sometimes wanderlust sets in and there’s a need to explore. We have some ideas to help you navigate the best summer activities in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

Happy Trails

Gulf State Park is a fantastic place to go to get face-to-face with nature and enjoy a little exercise as well. Head over to the Park’s Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail system where you will find 26 trails within nine distinct ecosystems making up over 28 miles of paved pathways. Connecting Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, these trails offer opportunities for hiking, biking, skating, rock climbing, watching wildlife, plant and tree identification, nature photography and more!

Aside from the trails, Gulf State Park offers adventure on the Fishing and Education Pier—the largest pier in the Gulf of Mexico and the state’s only public pier in the Gulf. Wet a line and enjoy fishing as a family knowing everything you need is available right on the pier. Purchase a saltwater fishing license, bait and tackle, snacks from the concession area and take home some neat souvenirs from the retail store. Want more? Consider attending Angler Academy, a two-hour signature experience where you’ll be thoroughly introduced to saltwater fishing.

Also check out Coastal Segway Adventures for guided Segway tours on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. It’s an exciting way to enjoy and learn more about Gulf State Park. Save time by signing waivers online and please note you must be at least 12 years old to participate.

Get on the Water

There’s no place better than Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for finding things to do on the water. There are lots of places scattered throughout the area that rent paddleboards, kayaks, jet skis, cat boats and other water toys. You can also rent watersports equipment directly on the beach at The Beach Club!

Try your hand at something new like snorkeling. Get an close-up view of marine life thriving in Alabama’s Gulf Coast waters. You might see stingrays, crabs, jellyfish, sea turtles, and more! Don’t own a mask and fins? No worries! You can find them at retailers or local dive shops. And, don’t overlook the fun experience of a guided snorkeling tour.

Parasailing is another great way to spend time on the water and have a thrilling experience! Imagine yourself soaring high above the turquoise Gulf of Mexico waters, feeling the breeze and adding a new perspective to your view of Alabama’s Gulf Coast.

Take a sunset cruise, search for dolphins, or maybe go deep-sea fishing. No matter your preference, there’s a boat for you. For boating, cruising, fishing or sailing excursions, booking early is best to ensure a spot for your family. (Pro tip: Consider a concierge service like The Beach Moms to book all of your reservations from dining to activities. You’ll have one less thing to remember and peace of mind for your vacation.)

Family-Friendly Fun

History buffs will love touring historic Fort Morgan. Spend an afternoon walking the grounds, hearing the stories, climbing the walls (yes, really!) and imaging where the battles actually took place. Save some time for the onsite museum and check the Fort Morgan website for daily/weekly events.

What’s a vacation without some friendly competition in a round of mini-golf or laser tag? Visit Adventure Island for fun in the sun riding bumper boats or go-karts, or some arcade shenanigans. (Pro tip: Look for a discount coupon on their website and print it at home.)

You just can’t beat a day at the award-winning Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo with exhibits, animal encounters, a carousel, and a cool new location! Make memories for a lifetime with experiences like holding a baby kangaroo, playing with a lemur, or hanging out with a sloth. Be sure to dine onsite at the Safari Club, Alabama’s first Green Certified restaurant. The décor is beautiful and fun, and the menu is spectacular.

No matter what special activities or experiences a vacation day holds, make sure your planning starts with booking a fabulous condo with plenty of room for your family. Comfort at the end of every day is key to a successful trip.

6 Reasons to Spend Spring Break in Gulf Shores

Going to the beach is one of the most popular ways to spend the spring break holiday – but which beach is best?

We may be biased, but we vote Gulf Shores – especially if you’re traveling as a family. From our spacious shorelines to our fun area attractions, our beautiful beach destination was made for great family getaways. Condos in Gulf Shores fill quickly so you’ll need to book fast – but first, check out these six reasons that even your kids will love spending spring break in Gulf Shores.

Family plays on Alabama's Beaches

1. Beautiful Beaches

While some beaches are great to look at, their shorelines are strewn with rocks and seashells that make stepping on a Lego feel like a soothing foot massage. Many areas are also still quite chilly during spring, which can make taking a Spring Break swim feel more like wading through a snowstorm.

In contrast, Gulf Shores and its sister community, Fort Morgan, boasts soft sugar-white sands and turquoise waters that are great for swimming and strolling. However, if the water is still a little too chilly for you, The Beach Club offers a heated indoor pool.

2. It’s Fabulous for Families

While other popular places are catering to college kids, Gulf Shores is built around stress-free family fun. The city of Gulf Shores works hard to keep our area appropriate for all ages through beach-wide bans on alcohol, tobacco, raucous partying and other public nuisances, especially during spring break. That means you can comfortably bring your children to swim, sunbathe, and build sandcastles knowing their safety – and your sanity – are never at risk. When you vacation at The Beach Club in nearby Fort Morgan, you can enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere even more. The resort is secluded with five football fields of private beaches and a variety of complimentary kids activities for guests booking direct through Spectrum Resorts.

Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

3. Activities for All Ages

Nothing brings down a great Spring Break faster than hearing “I’M BORED!” Luckily, you can banish boredom from your vocabulary during spring break in Gulf Shores because the area is full of amazing attractions and activities for all ages. You can enjoy an excursion at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo (you’re never too old to cuddle a kangaroo); book a family fishing charter or sunset dolphin cruise; or take on a thrilling theme park (perfect for those picky teens.) Of course, there’s plenty to do at The Beach Club, too!

Poolside Cabana Rentals at The Beach Club Resort Gulf Shores Alabama

4. Fun Family Dining

Sandy kids and white tablecloths are not a good mix. That’s why Gulf Shores has a variety of dining options designed just for families – places where kids can be kids, parents can relax, and everyone can enjoy a delicious meal. Restaurants like LuLu’s and The Hangout include full play areas and fun kids activities to keep them entertained as you eat, and parents will love listening to local live music and sipping on custom cocktails. The dress code and atmosphere are casual, and the menus feature classic favorites for even the pickiest eaters (so no need to pack your own nuggets.) In addition, the poolside Gulfside Grill at The Beach Club’s clubhouse is perfect for burgers, wraps, salads and your favorite cocktails. Order up your favorite beach eats while the kids take part in the Cannonball Contest or Bellyflop Contest!

5. A Stress-Free Stay with Spectrum Resorts

When you stay with Spectrum Resorts at The Beach Club for spring break in Gulf Shores, you aren’t just getting a place to stay – you’re securing a stress-free vacation experience. Our guests enjoy exclusive perks unavailable to those who book with other rental providers – things like committed on-site staff, strict cleanliness guarantees, discounts on dining and retail outlets, cashless charging, priority reservations at resort facilities, and more.
