6 Things We Are Thankful for at The Beach Club

The Gulf Coast is no stranger to the challenges of hurricane season and our little part of the coast is no exception. The Beach Club is working hard to prepare for our reopening in March 2021. Despite the unexpected circumstances, we have so many things to be thankful for as our team works hard to welcome our beloved guests back to our sandy shores.

1. Dedicated Team Members

At The Beach Club, our team members are the have the best of the best. After the storm passed, we watched our team shine as they willingly accepted new tasks and traded their dress shoes for work boots and hard hats. Their commitment to reopening was reflected in their hard work and determination to welcome you back as soon as possible.

2. Safety of Our Team Members

You never truly know what to expect when a hurricane is coming your way. If you are a local on the Alabama Gulf Coast, you know the basics of storm preparation. However, storms don’t always follow the forecast and that was certainly the case when it came to Hurricane Sally. The hurricane made landfall as a much stronger storm than anticipated and moved slowly over our area causing more damage than was expected. Some team members remained onsite throughout the storm, and we are grateful for their safety and the safety of our guests. Team members rose to the occasion, assisting guests who rode out the storm onsite. After Hurricane Sally, our team quickly adapted to new job requirements. These new tasks came with new hazards while working in a construction zone. We are so grateful for the safety of our team members and those who are working hard to welcome you back to Gulf Shores.

3. First Responders, Utility Workers, and Construction Crews

This year has had more than its fair share of challenges, but one thing we can say for sure is that we have an immense level of love and appreciation for our essential workers and first responders. The eyewall of the storm had barely passed when we started to see first responders, utility workers, and construction crews rolling in to assist us and our neighbors. It was a beautiful sight to see and reassuring to know that these workers were prepared and ready to help. Many of these people worked long hours for weeks after the storm to help get businesses up and running. These dedicated workers deserve our sincerest thanks!

4. Compassionate Owners

Our condo and cottage owners are the very best you’ll find. Many of the owners personally donated funds to help our displaced team members. We are in awe of their kindness and compassion and are truly blessed to be connected with such thoughtful people.

5. Loyal Guests

Family plays on Alabama's Beaches

We love to see our loyal guests return each year for their family vacations and nothing is more disappointing than having to postpone those vacations. As you can imagine, there is nothing that makes us happier than to see our guests rescheduling their vacations after patiently waiting during the COVID beach closures and the recovery of Hurricane Sally. We can’t wait to see you again beginning March 31, 2021, when the resort will reopen in all her splendor!

6. White Sandy Beaches

Even as we work to reopen, we are grateful for the beautiful views and tranquility offered by our white-sand beaches. We invite you back to put your toes in the sand this coming spring and summer and continue creating happy memories at The Beach Club Resort & Spa.

There is always something to be thankful for and, at The Beach Club, we know that it is impossible to include everything on this list. As we move into the holiday season, there won’t be anything we’re more thankful for than our beloved guests returning. We can’t wait to see you!

6 Ways to Make the Beach Your Classroom

Maybe you’re searching for creative ways to teach the kids, or maybe you just need to get outdoors for a while. Regardless of how you school, there’s no better place to do it than on Alabama’s white-sand beaches!

If you’re wondering how to pull off schooling your kids in a non-traditional environment, check out this list of 6 Ways to Make the Beach Your Classroom.

The Fort has several areas where you can picnic, as well as let the kids play. If you decide to visit the Fort, plan to stay all day; it’s a wonderful experience to be able to watch the sunset over beautiful Mobile Bay!

3. Take a field trip to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab

The beach is the ideal location to dive deep and learn about marine biology. At Dauphin Island Sea Lab, the public aquarium is a great place to learn everything you need to know about the critters you’re swimming with in the Gulf! If you’d like to go a little more in-depth, join one of their Boardwalk Talks where you’ll learn how you can help preserve coastal and oceanic ecosystems.

*Note: As of August 2020, due to Covid-19, guests are required to wear a mask and must schedule their tour ahead of their visit.

4. Embark on a Dolphin Cruise

Though a dolphin cruise may just sound like another activity to entertain the kids, it’s far from it! Dolphin cruises are a wonderful opportunity to explore the calm back bays of the area and learn about local wildlife. Most captains are happy to answer any questions you may have, and some even have information and facts they will share throughout the journey! Dolphin cruises are family-friendly, and oftentimes have bathrooms on-board if you’re worried about younger kids. Most cruise staff welcome small coolers with drinks and snacks for your convenience. These cruises are a fun and engaging way to learn about aquatic animals, and you and your kids will no doubt have an amazing time!

5.  Stop by Alligator Alley

If your kids want to learn a little more about the reptiles that call our sunny climate home, check out Alligator Alley. Your journey begins on an elevated boardwalk that will lead you to the habitat of more than 450 alligators! What’s the first thing you see? Baby gators! These cute little creatures are so much fun to watch, and you’ll even have the opportunity to hold one, if you’d like. As you continue down the boardwalk, you’ll see adult alligators, and you won’t believe how big they are! Along with these creatures, you may also see turtles, snakes, Osprey, Bullfrogs and even owls. If you’d like to see the alligators feed, you can watch at 11 a.m., at 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. This activity is handicap accessible.

6.  Visit Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is one of the most popular family attractions in the region. Also known as the “Little Zoo” for its starring role in the 2006 hit documentary series, “The Little Zoo That Could” on Animal Planet, this non-profit zoological park is not just a little community zoo; it’s home to more than 199 species, 31 sub-species, and haven to eight endangered species. The zoo is about a mile from the beach and sits adjacent to a protected nature reserve. Tucked just off the main highway, visitors feel like they have entered a tropical urban oasis filled with intriguing sounds from their rich diversity of exotic animals. Whether it’s the distinctive call from their peacocks, chatter from the monkeys, or the occasional roar from one of their lions, you are instantly transported out of life’s hustle and bustle and into a peaceful nature setting. With wide pathways spread out over seven and a half acres, the zoo has shaded picnic areas, rest stops and benches, a seasonal concession stand, and a gift shop filled with awesome animal-themed merchandise. Voted the “#1 Zoo in Alabama” two times, they offer more than your typical zoo experience. Their friendly staff wants your trip to be as educational as possible, so they are always available to answer your questions. A trip to The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is a field trip like no other!

5 Instagram-Worthy Photo Ops in Gulf Shores

With summer going at full steam, everyone is going to be posting those amazing vacation photos. You know, the ones where they’re at this incredible destination and sporting a fabulous new bikini? You’re either the person in the picture or the person admiring it. Last year, I was the girl admiring all of those cool photos. As my mom would say: “You got left in the dust.” But not this year. I’m determined to get my Instagram feed up to speed. While visiting The Beach Club a couple of weeks ago, I found the perfect places to take trendy and fun photos. If you were the person behind the lens last year, I’m here to help with that. Read on for some inspiration on Instagram-worthy photo ops at the beach.

1. The Beach

If you’re an early bird, head down to the beach around 7 a.m. The sun has just risen, and there won’t be many people out to disturb you. The Beach Club chair and umbrella rentals will be nice and neat that early in the day, and when they are all lined up, they make for one of the most unique Insta-worthy photo ops.

2. Campfires at The Beach Club

Campfires on the sand are quite possibly the easiest photo op at the beach. Although this isn’t allowed on public beaches, campfires can be arranged for guests of Spectrum Resorts on The Beach Club’s private beaches. Simply make a reservation ahead of time (guests who book directly with Spectrum Resorts get 10% off), and the Spectrum team members do all the work for you. Take some pics on the boardwalk, then head down to the campfire for s’mores. Be sure to book your campfire before sunset, so you can have the bonus of Golden Hour. Your followers will do a double-take (in a good way) when they see the pics you took at your unique beach experience!

Note: Beach campfires are available seasonally and can vary throughout the year.

3. Historic Fort Morgan

Rich in Alabama Gulf Coast history, Fort Morgan may just be the most unique Insta-worthy photo op in Gulf Shores. According to their website, “Located on Mobile Point, at the end of Scenic Fort Morgan Peninsula, Fort Morgan Historic Site has a diverse number of activities to make your vacation a memorable one. Preceded by another fort, Fort Bowyer during the War of 1812, Fort Morgan is a Third System masonry fort built between 1819 and 1833. Standing guard where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico, the fort played a significant role in the Battle of Mobile Bay in August 1864. Used intermittently through the Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II, the site showcases the evolution of seacoast fortifications and adaptations made by the U.S. Army for the defense of the country. In 1946 the site was turned over to the State of Alabama as a historic site. The grounds offer more than just history, the site also has nature areas, a boat launch, picnic area, and beaches for visitors to enjoy.”

Doesn’t that sound so cool? There are endless photo opportunities there. Plan to spend your whole day at the fort and get ready for some incredible photos!

4. Souvenir City

Souvenir City has been a family beach tradition since 1956. Not only do they sell super-cool merchandise, but the biggest draw for visitors is the giant shark. Yes, I said giant shark! Nestled in the heart of Gulf Shores, Souvenir City makes for an awesome Instagram-worthy photo op at the beach. Stand in the mouth of the shark for an unforgettable photo that will get you likes galore! Afterward, take some time to shop inside. Souvenir City has everything you’ll need for a day on the beach.

5.  The Village Lawn

The Village Lawn is by far the trendiest spot for fun photo ops throughout Gulf Shores and Fort Morgan. Open during the summer months, The Village Lawn features vintage Airstream food trucks and fantastic live music. Seated under the festival style lights, there are endless opportunities for amazing photos.

Note: The Village Lawn is available seasonally.

I hope you found some fun ideas for unique photo ops at and/or near The Beach Club. Be sure to tag @TheBeachClubResortAndSpa during your next Insta-worthy vacay!

See you at the beach,

5 Ultra-Fun Things for Teens to do at The Beach Club

Summer is FINALLY here! This school year has been rough for me, so I can’t tell you how excited I am to be back on the beach! Hanging out at The Beach Club in Gulf Shores is one of the coolest ways to spend summer break. If you’re like me, your attention span is nowhere to be found, and that’s fine. It was a long school year! I’ve created this list with activities for the go-getter and all of you that just want to sit back and relax. Whether you’re a gamer, shopper, social butterfly, or music enthusiast, there are so many fun things for teens to do at The Beach Club.

1. The Village Creamery

The Village Creamery is the perfect place to cool off and satisfy your sweet tooth. Last time I was at The Beach Club, I got the most amazing tan. (I still can’t forget it, ha!) I got a little hot in the process so I gave The Village Creamery a try. OH. MY. GOODNESS. What more can I say? It was super hard to choose between the 16 different, hand-dipped flavors. I finally decided on the cookies and cream sundae, and I was not disappointed! In addition to the amazing flavors, I was shocked at all the candy. I mean, I was in heaven! They literally have every candy you can think of. What a treat! If you’re a Spectrum Resorts’ guest, enjoy a free cone on Spectrum or charge your ice cream to your room number. (With your parent’s permission, of course!)

2. The Village Arcade & Billiards

If you’re a gamer, you won’t be able to get enough of The Village Arcade & Billiards. Enjoy playing Xbox One  games or race your friends in Super Bikes 2. If you don’t want to play digital games, try your luck at the claw machine or a game of pool. It’s just one of so many fun things for teens to do at The Beach Club. (Especially when it’s super hot or rainy!) The arcade is a hidden gem at the resort, and you’ll no doubt love it as much as I do!

3. The Village Mercantile

Ladies, you’re going to LOVE this place! So, funny story, one time when I was visiting The Beach Club, I forgot my swimsuit. Yep. that’s me. It’s not the first time it’s happened either, yikes! Anyway, my mom took me to The Village Mercantile and their fashion game was on point! Hats, flip flops, sunglasses, and lucky for me, swimsuits! The Village Mercantile saved my beach trip that week. Plan to stop in while you’re at The Beach Club. You won’t regret it!

4. Sand Island

If you’re a “social butterfly” Sand Island is perfect for you! Whether you want to play a little beach volleyball, hang out with some friends, or meet fellow vacationers, I would 100% recommend Sand Island. Located directly north of The Clubhouse, Sand Island is the perfect hangout spot for teens!

5. The Village Lawn

Looking for more fun things to do at The Beach Club? The Village Lawn combines two of my favorite things, music, and food. I honestly can’t think of anything better than grabbing a bite from one of the food trucks and jamming out to some live music. Guests  who book directly through Spectrum Resorts can charge food to their room number so they don’t have to carry any cash, one of my favorite perks. When staying at the resort, live music at The Village Lawn is on the top of my list. Seriously, you have to experience it!

I hope this list of things teens can do at The Beach Club in Gulf Shores was helpful in planning your beach trip! You’re going to have so much fun at my favorite resort!

See you at the beach,
Emily
